Hartshead
In 1811 Patrick Bronte became minister at St Peter's Church in Hartshead (pictured above). During this time he lived at Clough House in nearby Hightown.
Today the village of Hartshead is perhaps more popularly associated with the adjacent area of Hartshead Moor, which gives its name to a nearby service station between junctions 25 and 26 on the M62 motorway. This is claimed to be the highest service station in the United Kingdom.
