The Shears
The Shears Inn in Hightown near Liversedge in Kirklees is said to have been a meeting place of the Luddites, who challenged the introduction of mechanisation during the time of the Industrial Revolution.
Their uprisings inspired Charlotte Bronte's second novel, which was titled "Shirley" after its eponymous main character.
